Program length: 3 years

Why did you choose this program?

We get exposure and a diverse experience at two of only three hospitals on Staten Island: an academic level 1 trauma center (SIUH North) and community-based site (Prince’s Bay Campus). Our residency is located one bridge away from Brooklyn/Manhattan and New Jersey, so we get the best of both worlds! The faculty provide unmatched medical education through our first-rate weekly resident conferences, simulation sessions, and ultrasound teaching. Their dedication and our hard work have paid off as we are the current NYC SimWars and NYC Battle of the Borough Lecture competition champions.

How do residents relax during their downtime?

Competing in weekly interdepartmental resident basketball league games (EM usually wins!),  weekend strolls on the Midland Beach boardwalk, hiking at nearby mountains, brunch/karaoke in the city, hot pot/korean bbq after conference. We also bond over wellness events including Friendsgiving, Six Flags, TopGolf, escape rooms, free concert tickets and VIP suite at the Prudential Center, BBQ at our APD’s house, and hiking upstate!

—Chief Residents (PGY3): Tazeen Abbas, MD; Wayne Fu, MD, MBA; Danielle Langan, DO
