James F. Giglio, MDI’m a white, privileged and successful emergency physician who has spent more than two decades in leadership, and despite training and working in underserved communities for most of my career I confess that I haven’t spent enough time, nor expended enough effort, in addressing these glaring health disparities. I guess I needed a reminder of the profound sadness I experienced during my EM training, when new white Air Jordans bloodied in the assassinations of the children of my coworkers were swept to the corners of the trauma bay. How did I come to accept this unthinkable reality? Will I now use my mental broom and find new corners to sweep away the horrors of COVID? Thanks, Dr. Baker, for calling me–and those like me–to action.

Mark Elder D. O.Fantastic article. Well written. Great points. What percentage of non-African American physicians do you personally think have negative racial bias against African Americans? I think this number is important in our understanding of this national crisis?
