2013 ACEP Elections

Each October at ACEP’s annual conference, the ACEP Council elects new leaders for the College. The Council, which represents all 53 Chapters, 32 Sections of Membership, EMRA, CORD, SAEM, and the Association of Academic Chairs in Emergency Medicine, will elect four members to the ACEP Board of Directors and the College’s President-elect.

President-Elect

The following Board members are candidates for the office of President-elect.

Andrew I. Bern, MD, FACEP

Current Professional Position: Attending Physician, Department of Emergency Medicine, Team Health SE travel team, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

Internships and Residency: The Affiliated Hospitals of the University of Louisville/University Hospital. Internal Medicine Residency and Internship: State University of New York at Downstate Medical Center.

Medical Degree: State University of New York at Downstate Medical Center, Brooklyn, N.Y. (1976)

Rebecca B. Parker, MD, FACEP

Current Professional Position: Executive Vice President, EmCare North Division; Staff Physician, Provena Covenant, Urbana, Ill., and Centegra Health System, McHenry and Woodstock, Ill., President, Team Parker LLC, Consulting Group Coding, Billing, and Compliance, Clinical Assistant Professor, Texas Tech El Paso Department of Emergency Medicine.

Internships and Residency: Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center-El Paso.

Medical Degree: Northwestern University (1995)

Michael Gerardi, MD, FACEP

Current Professional Position: Attending and Faculty for Emergency Medicine, Morristown Medical Center, Morristown, N.J.; Director, Pediatric Emergency Medicine, Goryeb Children’s Hospital, Morristown, N.J., Senior Vice President, Emergency Medical Associates.

Internships and Residency: Residencies in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics, Emory University, Atlanta, Ga.

Medical Degree: Georgetown School of Medicine and Pediatrics (1985)

Board of Directors

The ACEP Board of Directors provides a day-to-day management and direction of the College. These members of the College have been nominated by the ACEP Board Nominating Committee to fill 3-year positions on the ACEP Board of Directors.

James Augustine, MD, FACEP

Current Professional Position: Director of Clinical Operations, EMP, Canton, Ohio; Executive Editor, ED Management; Clinical Associate Professor, Department of Emergency Medicine, Wright State University, Dayton, Ohio; Vice President, Emergency Department Benchmarking Alliance.

Internships and Residency: Emergency Medicine, Wright State University School of Medicine, Dayton, Ohio

Medical Degree: Wright State University School of Medicine, Dayton, Ohio (1983)

Paul Kivela, MD, FACEP (Incumbent)

Current Professional Position: Managing Partner, Napa Valley Emergency Medical Group, Napa, Calif. (single hospital medical group with full partnership structure)

Internships and Residency: Emergency Medicine Residency, UCLA

Medical Degree: University of Illinois (1990).

Robert O’Connor, MD, MPH, FACEP (Incumbent)

Current Professional Position: Professor, Chair, Physician-in-Chief, Department of Emergency Medicine, University of Virginia Health System, Charlottesville, Va.
