2010 ACEP Elections: Meet the Candidates

At its annual meeting in September, the ACEP Council will elect new leaders for the College. The Council, which represents all 53 chapters, 30 Sections of Membership, EMRA, and the Association of Academic Chairs in Emergency Medicine, will elect four members to the ACEP Board of Directors and the College’s President-elect.
The Council meeting will take place September 26-27 at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas.

President-Elect

The following Board members are candidates for the office of president-elect. Additional information about these candidates and their answers to three written questions can be found online.

Kathleen M. Cowling, D.O., FACEP

Current Professional Position: Attending Emergency Physician, Covenant HealthCare, Emergency Care Center, Saginaw, Mich.; Assistant Clinical Professor, Michigan State University College of Human Medicine; Core Faculty Synergy Medical Education Alliance emergency medicine residency program.

Internship and Residency: Internship, Michigan State University Ingham Medical Center (1991-92); Emergency Medicine Residency, Michigan State University Sparrow-Ingham Affiliated (1992-95), Chief Resident (1994-95).

Elected to Board: 2005, 2008.

Ramon W. Johnson, M.D., FACEP

Current Professional Position: Associate Director, Emergency Department, Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center, Mission Viejo, Calif.

Internship and Residency: Internship in Pediatrics, UCLA (1979-80); Pediatric Residency, UCLA (1980-82); Emergency Medicine Residency, UCLA (1982-85), Chief Resident (1984-85).

Elected to Board: 2004, 2007.

David C. Seaberg, M.D., FACEP

Current Professional Position: Dean, University of Tennessee College of Medicine Chattanooga, Chattanooga, Tenn.; Professor, Division of Emergency Medicine, University of Tennessee College of Medicine Chattanooga; Emergency Physician, Erlanger Health System, Chattanooga, Tenn.

Internship and Residency: Emergency Medicine Residency, University of Pittsburgh (1987-90).

Elected to Board: 2005, 2008.

Board of Directors

The ACEP Board of Directors provides day-to-day management and direction of the College. These members of the College have been nominated by the ACEP Board Nominating Committee to fill 3-year positions on the ACEP Board of Directors. Four positions will be filled.

Andrew I. Bern, M.D., FACEP (incumbent)

Current Professional Position: Attending Emergency Physician, Delray Medical Center, Delray Beach, Florida

Medical Degree: M.D., State University of New York at Downstate Medical Center, Brooklyn, N.Y. (1976).

Internship and Residency: Emergency Medicine Residency, The Affiliated Hospitals of the University of Louisville, Kentucky (1979-81); Internal Medicine Residency, State University of New York at Downstate Medical Center, Brooklyn, N.Y. (1976-79).
