What does your program offer that residents can’t get anywhere else?

From a professional standpoint, our educational curriculum is truly top tier. We are fortunate to have faculty who not only lead our didactic and simulation courses, but also genuinely care about making our learning experience both enjoyable and effective. The interactive nature of our didactic sessions helps keep us engaged, ensuring that the material is not only memorable but also retained in the long term.

Our simulated education is second to none, and I believe this is one of the key factors that sets our program apart. We have a dedicated team that continuously strives to make our simulations as realistic as possible, often achieving remarkable results that truly prepare us for real-world challenges.

From a personal standpoint, our program fosters a supportive and caring atmosphere. Our attending faculty take a genuine interest in who we are as individuals, which creates a nurturing environment that extends throughout the program. This culture of care and respect trickles down to the residents, who consistently model kindness and support towards one another, creating a collegial atmosphere that makes the program all the more rewarding.

What is the work-life balance like? What are some fun activities that residents enjoy when they’re not working?

Our work-life balance is exceptional, and our faculty are dedicated to helping us maintain that balance wherever possible. Outside of work, our residents make the most of their free time by attending Mizzou sporting events — especially football games — exploring the scenic trails around Columbia or taking trips to Lake of the Ozarks during the summer. Many of our residents with families also enjoy the variety of engaging community activities available in Columbia, making it an ideal place for both personal and professional growth.

There truly is something for everyone here. Our faculty organize social events throughout the year, providing opportunities to connect outside of the workplace. In the fall, we enjoyed a Thanksgiving dinner in conjunction with our monthly Journal Club meeting. Other events have included trail clean-ups, dinners at Les Bourgeois Winery, and fun nights out at Midway Golf and Games. These events not only foster camaraderie among residents but also create lasting memories.
