Improve Quality with CEDR and E-QUAL

As part of its ongoing commitment to providing the highest quality of emergency care, ACEP has developed the Clinical Emergency Data Registry (CEDR) and the Emergency Quality Network (E-QUAL). These first-of-their-kind networks support emergency physicians’ efforts to improve quality and practice in all types of emergency departments, even as practice and payment policies change over the coming years.

CEDR

ACEP’s CEDR has been approved by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) as a qualified clinical data registry. CEDR will provide a unified method for ACEP members to collect and submit Physician Quality Reporting System (PQRS) data, Maintenance of Certification (MOC), Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluation (OPPE), and other local and national quality initiatives.

E-QUAL

E-QUAL seeks to enroll over 24,000 emergency clinicians and 2,000 emergency departments by 2019 in three focused learning networks designed to transform ED practice and support the triple aim of improved health outcomes, better coordination of care, and more efficient spending. E-QUAL will ensure clinicians and emergency departments meet the new CMS Merit-Based Incentive Payment System requirements for clinical practice improvement activities, receive benchmarking data to guide local quality improvement efforts, earn Part IV MOC and CME, and receive free access to toolkits and resources including best practices, sample guidelines, and key talking points. Sign up for E-QUAL on site to participate in our three planned learning collaboratives:

  • Improving outcomes for patients with sepsis.
  • Reducing avoidable imaging in low risk patients through implementation of ACEP’s Choosing Wisely recommendations.
  • Improving the value of ED chest pain evaluation by reducing avoidable admissions in low-risk patients with chest pain.
