ACEP16 Preview: Vol 35 – No 09a – September 2016

Resuscitation of the critically ill is one of the most stressful and frustrating components of our clinical practice yet among the most rewarding. Our patients deserve excellence in our ability to provide safe invasive procedures. These procedures are often required to save a life yet are often not utilized because of lack of practice and familiarity with the procedure itself and advances in equipment and technique. These hands-on labs are designed to improve practitioner competence of invasive emergency procedures in a safe and controlled environment. Nationally renowned faculty known for their expertise in invasive procedures will closely supervise each participant. The labs utilize fresh, unembalmed cadavers, which closely simulate the anatomy and feel of an actual patient. Join the lab that will assist you in providing quality care for your patients.

Disruptive Innovations in Acute and Emergency Care: Aligning Payment and Delivery Reform

Date: Saturday, Oct. 15
Time: 12:30–5:30 p.m.
Cost: $89 ACEP members, $139 non-members, $69 residents

This session will highlight new disruptive innovations in acute and emergency care. Disruptive innovations are those that create new markets, often changing market dynamics and creating value through new models, such as freestanding emergency departments, home-hospital care, community paramedicine, or telemedicine. In addition, emergency physicians are leading disruptive innovation within hospital-based emergency departments. These new models will need to be superimposed on a rapidly changing payment system that is moving away from fee-for-service to alternative payment models. Learn directly from leaders on the front lines of this change, plus gain an understanding of what works and what doesn’t, the policies that govern these new changes, and how to strategize in the near and long term.
