Members of the ACEP Council prepare to vote for resolutions at the 2014 meeting. You do not have to be a Councillor to submit a resolution.

The ACEP Council, the major governing body of the College, will consider and debate Council resolutions in conjunction with ACEP15 this fall in Boston. The Council will meet for two days, Oct. 24 and 25, 2015, before the annual conference begins.

During the Council meeting, the Council deliberates on resolutions ranging from College operations and bylaws to major health care policy initiatives. This year, there are 375 members of the Council, representing chapters, sections, the Emergency Medicine Residents’ Association (EMRA), the Association of Academic Chairs of Emergency Medicine (AACEM), the Council of Emergency Medicine Residency Directors (CORD), and the Society of Academic Emergency Medicine (SAEM). Council resolutions offer an opportunity to make an impact and influence the College’s agenda for the coming years. If you have a hot topic that you believe the College should address, now is the time to advise your Council officers; Council Speaker Kevin M. Klauer, DO, EJD, FACEP; Council Vice Speaker James M. Cusick, MD, FACEP; and your state chapter or section leadership to make certain your issues or ideas are heard—or draft a resolution yourself, along with another ACEP member.

Here are the basics:

  • Bylaws and regular resolutions are due 90 days before the meeting. Each resolution must be submitted by at least two members of the College. In the case of resolutions submitted by a chapter or section, a letter of endorsement from the President or Chair representing the sponsoring component body must accompany such resolution. If the resolution is submitted by email, the letter of endorsement can be either attached to the email or embedded in the body of the email.
  • All resolutions from national ACEP committees must be submitted to the Board of Directors for review prior to the resolution deadline. If approved, the resolution then carries the endorsement of the committee and the Board of Directors.

Submissions and questions should be sent to:
